Adelaide United have announced the signing of Central Coast Mariners defender Nigel Boogaard for the next two A-League seasons.
In the last season of his deal with the Mariners, 23-year-old Boogaard has wasted no time securing his future after five years in Gosford.
“I’ve always respected the way Adelaide United both play football on the field and have done things off the field. The chance to move to Adelaide and join the club is something I’m really looking forward to,” Boogaard expplained.
Boogaard has made more than 40 A-League appearances for Central Coast, including all 13 this season, and has the versatility to play in any defensive position.
“Boogs has been fantastic for the club and I’m sure he’ll do well in Adelaide,” Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna said.
“Now all the speculation is out of the way, he can concentrate on his football, and hopefully we can send him off with the title."
In some good news for the Mariners, utility Brad Porter has re-sgined with the club for a further two years.
“He’s one of the players we need to keep as we keep building, so it’s good to get everything sorted out," McKinna said.
Meanwhile, Adelaide United's Round 13 game on Friday night against Brisbane Roar will be Robert Cornthwaite's 100th game - in all competitions - for the club.
The 24-year-old defender will become just the fifth Reds player to achieve that feat and only the second member of the current squad, after captain Travis Dodd.
