Why the FFA shouldn't Expand to Just 11 Teams in 2010/11... Empty Why the FFA shouldn't Expand to Just 11 Teams in 2010/11...

There are several good reasons why the FFA shouldn't leave expansion in the 2010/11, season 6 of the A-League to just 11 teams.

Firstly, this will bring in an uneven amount of teams in the A-League, creating the necessity for a bye and less potential matches every week, or the same amount of matches per week that will be played this season. And wasn't a reason of Melbourne's second team being granted a license to get A-League matches being played in Melbourne every week! How will this go when there is a bye fairly often.

Secondly, the 2010/11 A-League season will be coming straight after the World Cup Finals in South Africa which Australia are playing in. This will mean lots of hype and a huge amount of support for football throughout the country, especially if Australia is successful. Wouldn't it be great to bring in more teams in the season which starts straight after the World Cup Finals so they can capitalise on some fresh support.

Another point is that when there is expansion, there will be more hype around the new teams if there are more teams coming in. There will be much more excitement around the A-League and the new teams if there are two new teams coming in, taking the total no. of teams participating to 12, instead of just one more team making it eleven...

If anyone has some more good points on why this would be a bad decision from the FFA, please share! Very Happy

Good post thom and exactly right.

Absolutely ridiculous that they are even considering going to 11 teams. Of course my preffered option is to go to 12 teams BUT if none of the bids in contention can come around just leave it at 10 teams- and wait till the year after.

yeah i agree in principle with those points thom canberra but if we don't have the money, do you blame the FFA for not giving us a license?

I agree with RaidersCampese. We don't want a bye. So if none of the bids can come around then delay the expansion for a season- and then bring in Canberra and Melbourne.

^^ I actually think we're not too far from getting the required start up money, it isn't as big as one million dollars which a lot of people are saying we need.

Our bid can definately get the money once the team is announced, its just no one will have the confidence to put in untill it is definate that we have a team.
