Robbie Hooker still unsigned?

c'mon canberra united, get your act together. We still haven't signed him and after what he did last year it's a crying shame.

Agree. This is poor form from Capital Football.

Why? I don't understand. He guided us to a GF and most of the players have even said if Hooker isn't here then they will probably leave.

This is an outrage!!! any coach in europe who leads a team to second place (i.e. automatic champions league place) would have their job secured for the next season.

We really don't want to lose Robbie Hooker do we?

Agree with all the above. he CANNOT be lost.

If we lose Hooker, not only do we lose the best coach in the league but also some of the best players in the league.

I'm being the Devil's Advocate here, but a large part of Hookers' success last season was due to the individula talent of the girls. For all his 'coaching' we were not a goal scoring club. Most of the games ended in draws in which United were up front but lost momento to hold a lead.

I mean, if you can't do something with a line up consisting of Munoz, Davies, Brush, Chapman, Slatyer, Maciejewski, McDonnel and young guns like Sykes...you need to get a day job.

Sasha McDonnel was a choker; Sykes was far from it.

The difficulty with Hooker was that he was adamant that Sykes would drop deep to pick up the ball and use her pace to get a chance in front of goal. It didn't work because a. she still hasn't the technique/physical presence to hold the ball in contest and b. she had no support. For her lack of goals; she certainly made up for it by her incredible understanding of the game. She delivered the occasional through ball that opened up the defence, her passing was complete and she had a good work rate throughout the season.

Sasha on the other hand was just lazy. I've never been so disappointed in a player. Her touches were heavy and she never tried to win the ball back. Her passing was truly left wanting as most possession lost was the result of her carelessness.

i agree with you about sasha but we'll have to agree to disagree on sykes.

i believe that sykes is techincally horrible on the ball, her only advantage in speed and should've had 10 goals from one on one chances with the keeper but jus kicked it straight ot the keeper.

I think we need a new quick but a goal scoring up front to partner Munoz.

And then we can have McDonnell as an Attacking Mid.

We should have a great side next year, if Hooker gets resigned and we keep most of our players.

You do realise Sykes was less experienced of the two? Yes, she didn't score many goals, but she contributed in ways that make me believe she will be a prodigy in the future.

Munoz is better in the attacking midfield position because she is better at distributing the ball, I personally don't think she works well with her back to goal as she lacks the pace to be a pure striker.

And Sasha as attacking mid? No freaking way - you need someone who can hold the ball and who is as quick moving off the ball and she possesses neither of these qualities.

I say we keep Sykes of course but I don't think she should be starting. I see her more as a winger like her sister Nicole. Maybe off the bench in the last 20 mins as a striker but if she is to start: on the wing. She has got the pace.

Yea thinking about it probably Munoz as the Attacking Mid and McDonnell up front with a decent finisher, we need to buy one.

I believe if we can keep our midfield the same as last year (so bloody sign Hooker, Capital Football, so we can keep them) we should be able to win the comp with another bought6 striker.

I believe our backs are good with Brush, Slatyer, Kiting, but who else was playing defence last year?

Should have a great team that can win the title.

Also the support can hopefully be better than it was last year. It was good but not enough singing and not enough people.

Davis was playing defence last year, but was a waste of time bringing her from NT. she didn't do much and was injured most of the time. Other defenders were Walters and Studman, both current Young Matildas, and N Sykes, who was a bit nervous. Experience will help them. Midfield was good with Cian and Caitlin, just need to sort out forwards. The team may have got to the finals, but that doesn't make Hooker a good coach. The team was very divided. Hooker has his favourites and if you aren't one of them, then you are frozen out.

So teddybear, Would you like to see Hooker signed?

Yes, I think he is a good technical manager and knows football probably better than most in Australia. He just needs to work on his people management skills and try to relate to the younger girls better.

Who is McKillop?

MAry Mckillop maybe, don't know what the joke is though if that's the case.

Clive MacKillop won the old WNSL with the Canberra Eclipse before being forced out for political reasons. He is an excellent coach and deserves to take back the spot as Canberra's top woman's football team coach.
