A mate of mine just sent an email to the FFA asking how a foreign team from NZ can be in the A-League and not Canberra. Here is there reply:
From: A-League [mailto:A-League@footballaustralia.com.au]

To: CXXXXXX, Jim
Subject: RE: A League [SEC=PERSONAL:NO CAVEATS]
Hi Jim
Thanks for your email and interest in the Hyundai A-League.
Despite the Hyundai A-League being in its 5th Season, the competition is still very much in its infancy. Expansion into new markets (including Canberra/ACT) is a very real possibility in future years, and there are certainly interested parties within the Canberra/ACT region that are in contact with FFA in order to achieve this outcome.
Each market is assessed with regard to commercial viability and specific criteria, and through a number of factors, each license provided to consortia to compete in the Hyundai A-League is carefully considered on its merits.
Canberra/ACT is a very important market for Football, AIS (Australian Institute of Sport) field a team in the National Youth League team in the NYL competition, while Canberra United competes in the Westfield W-League (National Women's competition). These are examples of the region's growth and importance in relation to Football.
While FFA acknowledges the importance of the region with regards to the growth of Football and the Hyundai A-League, a license to compete in the Hyundai A-League would not be provided to any consortia who are not able to meet the commercial viability or criteria required to compete in the Hyundai A-League.
Without comparing Wellington Phoenix's license to compete in the Hyundai A-League with any other specific examples, at the time the club entered the competition, the commercial viability and criteria of the club was able to meet FFA's requirements. New Zealand is also a very important market to the growth of Football within our region.
I trust this answers your question in relation to this query.
Kind Regards

Wonder what the FFA will now be thinking following the flooding of many letters? Hope they just realise that the support for football in Canberra is immense and we should have a team.

good letter
this is silly, they say that canberra can't have a team because we don't have enough money but then they give it to a bid that doesn't have the money either.
we have been led down the garden path

It's not looking good
The Future is ours to determine not the FFA

We have to tell the FFA to sod off and get on with building a stronger bid for next time.
This bid has stalled because of money. Therefore we need to generate money for our bid and the franchise to come.

It is simple. WE get the money and we will be in within 4 maybe 3 maybe 2 years.

^^ So its simple is it?
Western Sydney don't get the money and they get in now!
We get more money than WS and we don't get considered at all...
