Canberra vs Western Sydney rivalry

this is one real positive to come out of this bid process, a rivalry has formed between us and western sydney.

i can say pretty safely that nearly everyone on this forum hates western sydney now yeah?

I don't hate Western Sydney. There is no doubt that particular region deserves an A-League team because of its footballing strength and demographics.
What I do hate though is the bidding process and the FFA's lack of transparency. Given their focus for the number 12 spot was purely on WS they really should have only asked for bids from there instead of wasting everybody else's time.
Although at least now we've got a good platform and some time to build on, and we'll have a fantastic rivalry with WS when we do enter the league.

The question isn't really appropriate. I wouldn't say I hate them, but they are definitely rivals to Canberra.

I think they will be strong rivals...

This is why we should kindof align ourselves with Sydney FC for the time being?

i guess unless wollongon get a team, they would be our closet geographical rival also.

just 3 hours up the highway, maybe when they enter the league we can attend a game or two out west as a group to show our committment to getting our own team,

would be great to have a bay or green at a WS game to highlight our own credentials

There will certainly be a big rivalry. The one thing I love about football is of the rivalries. I don't think this game will be a game that will bring in the 50/50 fans to the match, but for the passionate fans it will be quite big.

Rivalry yes but it won't be a game, as cufc_cc said, that will bring the 50/50 fans to.

We won't be a big crowd puller for any game. Western SYdney would big OUR biggest rival but not theirs, and they won't think much of the game.

Our biggest rivals would be Wollongong when they get a team, but still it wouldn't be big and something the fans will get overly excited about.

there will definantly be a rivalry but i dont think it will be our fiercest... unless we have players who are dirty mother f***ers and everyone hates us.... Sth Coast would be our geographical rival

I first strted to play football in the West of Sydney - many years ago. I have fond memories and more nightmares from the Cambletown games.

Sure it's not Western Sydney's fault that we missed out on our bid. But if they were not on the earth we would have got it, and for that simple logic i dont like them.

As with the rivalries, it just comes over time. Sure your closest teams are going to be bigger matches - like Bris and Gold Coast. But some of Brisbanes better matches are between Adelaide, Newcastle and Central Coast. Just because of the history of matches between, the banter between the fans. If a flash player goes from one club to another and the hatred that follows, those sorts of things brew together to form a good emotional rivalry

Turn Canberra in to a bastion of losing for any travelling team and the whole A League will be our rivals

Yea I guess you are right. This rivalry could still be big despite the geographical distances. As you said this will be our "emotional" rivalry due to the expansion battle.
