ACT Govt wants FFA answers

Time is ticking on the ACT Government's $2.5 million commitment to Ivan Slavich's A-League bid, with Sports Minister Andrew Barr putting a five year deadline on the funding.

After meeting with Slavich this week to discuss the future of ACT Government support, Barr has requested a full debrief from the FFA on why Canberra's bid wasn't accepted.

And Barr said if there was no guarentee of a team within 5 years, the primary focus would become the western Sydney AFL franchise.

"If the FFA says that the next expansion is five years away, then we can't hold that commitment beyond an election.

"At this stage, I want to maintain the $2.5 million in the sports portfolio but if the A-League is five years away at the earliest, we can't just let it sit there for that period of time so we would look to redirect that to our local venues."

It is good to hear that the ACT Gov are really pushing the FFA for answers, but to hear that there is a possibility that the government will push away an A-League team to help a Western SYdney AFL team is a real turn-off.

AM very disappointed to hear that the Government will push for an AFL team in WS, instead of continually pusing for an A-League team.

Disappointed about those comments from the Government but remain upbeat that we will get in within 5 years.

Well Done to the ACT Government for continuing to push the FFA for answers, and not just give up like that. It is good to hear that they will stick with the bid for at least another 5 years. But in saying that... possibly giving up this, for an AFL team in WESTERN SYDNEY? Why? Honestly, I know we would get a few games, but why not push for your own AFL team if you are to help a rival city?

Really dumb IMO.
