The finals, can we make it? Empty The finals, can we make it?

Well IMO we are definately peaking at the right end of the season but is it a few games too late?

The table as it stands is W-League

Team P W D L F A GD Pts
1 Brisbane Roar 7 5 2 0 15 3 12 17
2 Central Coast Mariners 7 5 1 1 19 5 14 16
3 Sydney FC 7 4 2 1 13 6 7 14
4 Melbourne Victory 7 3 2 2 8 6 2 11
5 Canberra United 7 2 2 3 11 10 1 8
6 Perth Glory 7 2 1 4 5 16 -11 7
7 Newcastle Jets 7 0 2 5 5 13 -8 2
8 Adelaide United 7 0 2 5 3 20 -17 2

Our run to the finals is as follows:

Newcastle v Canberra
Melbourne v Canberra
Canberra v Adelaide (our only home match left)

Also of interest are the run ins for melbourne:

Melbourne vs Central Coast Mariners
Melbourne vs Canberra United (their only home match)
Melbourne vs Perth Glory

and Sydney:

Sydney vs Perth Glory (their only home match)

Sydney vs Adelaide United

Sydney vs Central Coast Mariners

Make of this what you will but it looks like it will be a very tight tussle for the last two places in the 4

I have absolutley no idea. I dearly hope we haven't made it too late, and IMO I think we can still make it. But we HAVE to beat Melbourne, if we don't we are definitely finished.

We can, and probably will. We're peaking at the right time and have only one major injury.
If Cian's ankle holds up and Ash Sykes stays in form, we should give this a red hot go.

Junna: Destiny in our own hands
Wednesday, 18 November 2009
by Chris Gottaas, CanberraUnited.com.au

Head coach Ray Junna believe that Canberra United’s finals fate rest in their own hands with three rounds remaining in the Westfield W-League following last weekend’s record victory.

The 4-0 win over Perth sees Canberra in fifth spot on the ladder and on the door step of the top four ahead of a fixture against the winless Jets this weekend.

“It has given us a chance of getting into the top four,” Junna said regarding his side’s emphatic victory over the Glory.

“We control our own destiny now which is good so we’re not depending on other results.”

Canberra sits three points outside a finals berth with Melbourne in sight ahead of a potentially season defining clash between the two sides in a fortnight.

“We’re chasing down Melbourne who is currently in fourth who are three points in front of us,” Junna said.

“We get to play them the following weekend so if we can keep on maintaining the results that should get us in [to the top four].”

Junna though is wary of this weekend’s opposition with the pressure off the grounded Jets.

“It’s important because Newcastle haven’t had a win yet this season but the pressure is off them as their chances of making the finals mathematically is out of the equation,” Junna said.

“They will be a little bit more free and relaxed so if we don’t start well we could end up making it a difficult proposition for us.”

The club heads into their round-eight fixture against Newcastle high on confidence following a record four goal haul for the Canberra outfit.

With four separate goal scorers, the strikers fortunes in front of goal took a turn for the better and will be looking to continue in the same vein this weekend.

“In a few of the other games we’ve created a lot of chances but haven’t taken them,” Junna said.

“This weekend they went in which is very pleasing.”

Canberra United travel north to take on the Newcastle Jets in Round Eight of the Westfield W-League to kick off a double header at EnergyAustralia Stadium on Sunday with tickets available through Ticketek.

I am not so sure we will beat Melbourne. If we don't we are gone.

Well, Central Coast play Melbourne tonight so hopefully CCM can win. That means if we win, we will go up to fourth. We also want Brisbane to have s slip up heading into the finals, so then Central Coast come first, Brisbane come second, Sydney come third and we come fourth. This therefore means the Capital Punishment army could make their presence at an away semi-final, like last year.

There is no way we can get into third now, as Sydney are slaughtering the Glory and they will be either 6, 8 or 9 points ahead of us after this round and their goal difference is so much better than ours.
