What Happened to the Bid? Empty What Happened to the Bid?

Tue Jun 08, 2010 10:26 am
Has the bid just stopped?

are we reviving it later in the later?

will capital punishment still meet up at the a-league, w-league etc?

is there any point becoming a foundation member now if you already aren't?

will there be any bid merchandise soon if the bid hasnt ceased?

just some questions i was wondering if u could help me with

to answer the merchandise question... i dont think there will be any hats or t-shirts or anything... we didnt even get merchandise when the bid was in full swing so i dont think so.

and yer become a foundation member... it just shows support for canberra a-league... plus u'll get your money back if the bid is unsuccesfull

ivan.slavich@actewagl.com.au

here's the e-mail, ask him yourself and see what he says.

i read a while back that expansion tenders will be taken again by the FFA sometime this year with a date for entry to be set later.

not sure though

yeah straight to ivan is the way to go, post what he says on here if you get a response bigman.

i can honestly not see the FFA letting this bid slip, even if they want a consolidation period, you'd have to think they'd just give us a provisional licence for sometime in the future just to keep the bid together.

and remember the ACT government didn't want to put any money into the stadium if canberra weren't gonna have a team so i'm hoping that they got some sort of tip off from the FFA regarding re-opening expansion with canberra the frontrunners.

Canberra in the box seat to be the 13th team IMO, if the FFA want to expand the league

if i could guess a year....2013-2014 would probably be a suitable time. i know its a long wait for yous but the FFA needs to be careful with how quickly it expands. We saw Gold Coast and Nth QLD both almost fold after last season, not what the FFA needs.

I agree with red 4 life re the year, we can also base our marketing for the team on the 100 years of Canberra

If the FFA have to give us a date by 2012 then 2013 will give us at least a year depending when they announce it

however I've heard from very knowledgable sources that the FFA are looking to open up the expansion agenda later this year so...

Yeah because you know the a-league is losing money every year. FFA have to be careful otherwise the league might fold which would be terrible

that will give you a couple years or so to get a squad together and find owners and board members etc

I just really hope Canberra do things differently though. Differently from what all the other franchises have done.

Firstly they cant have the this one owner thing. Its detremental to clubs and the league classic example Gold Coast. The FFA need to start pushing for consortiums to own clubs with the possibility of fans making up a certain percentage of that consortium, if either to start of with, or let the money people find some stability then let fans financialy invest in the club.

Secondly clubs need to own their own infrastructure. I know this is a big cost but they really need to own their own grounds and or club houses. I have seen first hand how Brisbane Raaawwwww have had their pants pulled well down, and they have suffered. Even drink/food sales at the game dont go to them. Ticket and shirt sales just wont cut it.

THirdly, and this isnt a Canberra thing, but, this embargo or limitation or whatever it is that Lowy and co wont let certain companies sponsor clubs has to lift. This is a league that cant be fickle with who wants to sponsor teams. In my opinion, if Sydney want to be sposnored by Stocklands and play on a pitch where every second side line board is Westfields Mallthen so be it. The league is here for the fans. If you want to get rich of football be a player.

canberra are running a community model much much different to that on the gold coast. this is to ensure that if one backer pulls out, it's not the end of the world.

i don't see how canberra could own any stadium though.

If we win the world cup bid then we will have a modern facility there owned by the government.

if we don't we still have canberra stadium, owned by the government.

we could build our own but where would we find the finances in the region of 100-200 million? the government you say?? not the same government that has just built a perfectly fine football stadium??

Anyway owning your stadium is a risky business because with it come the maintenance issues etc. For me if the rent is somewhere we need to average 8-9K to break even which would be standard for the a-league then we should be fine.

and i agree with your third point 100%

you know what we should do, even though everyone has given up, we should get another trip to a game organised and show the ffa we are still here!!! i dont think they are any a-league games in canberra this year but a quick trip to sfs would get the ffa's attention

its a good idea... it just takes a lot of effort to organise but im sure if everyone on this forum or part of the army went it would be worth while to get the attention of the ffa
