Mini article in the sun herald
Sun May 17, 2009 2:40 pm
there was a little article in the sun herald by matthew hall in the sick as a parrot section about expansion:
"ACT Favourites?
With Wollongong and Western Sydney A-league bids struggling with stadiums and finance, is Canberra now in top spot to become the competitions newest team? The ace in harsh economic times is the ACT government's proposed $2.5 million investment that would make Canberra truly the 'people's team'."
My confidence rises and falls with each article that comes out.

Great Article an all but seriously the media are always doing different articles, favouring one bid and then another.

I am feeling pretty confident. We just need some ads or something to boost our profile

That would be a great idea - hmm how would they fund it though?
Maybe some kind of tie in with sponsors, like TransACT, like 'TransACT is behind Canberra's A-League Bid, come on Canberra, the team is on track, but it's up to you to get it over the line! Register here, yardy yardy yarda to support the bid. (Or something like that :p)
Or that bank where people can sign up to be Foundation Members, 'Service One Members Bank.' They could advertise/advocate the bid in one of their adverts. "Service One - Supporting Canberra's Bid for the A-League."
Through some of their major sponsors like these guys, if they already do TV advertising, then it should not be hard at all.
If they don't then I see biggies like Canberra Milk are also sponsors - now I'm sure they would do TV, Radio and/or Newspaper ads, so they could easily make reference to Canberra's A-League bid too, in one of their ads.
In many of these ads they may not even have to have a voice over or anything, maybe just stamp the end of it wish a swoosh of the A-League bid logo. Just help spread the vibe. Talk about it.

We really do need to do something out in the public because ATM there isn't enough publicity.

I beg to differ.
If it were me in Ben Buckleys shoes I'd have already made up my mind. Community support and awareness are great but the FFA needs cash..... lots of cash. Rather than spend money on advertising, just give it to the bid. Every cent helps. They could always donate foundation memberships as prizes or some such thing. That way we get the money and the members.
I'm also more confident about our chances, but not because of us, simply because Western Sydney haven't been able to produce anything publicly yet.
After we win the 12th franchise, then the advertising needs to kick in.
