Damien Mori to Coach Canberra?

Not sure I like the sound of this.
We should be looking for a more experienced attacking coach who's been sucessful overseas. Not a rookie.

Mori Tapped for Canberra Coaching Gig
NSL and A-League legend Damien Mori is believed to be considering an offer to coach a Canberra based A-League franchise in the 2010/11 season.
Mori, who is the Socceroos all time top goal scorer with 29 goals from 45 appearances, has made no secret of his desire to enter the A-League coaching arena since retiring from the competition in 2007.
With a season of experience in a player/assistant coaching role at Perth Glory in the 2005/06 season, and a successful spell as head coach of home town club Adelaide City under his belt, Mori is seen as a suitable candidate to step into an A-League head coaching position.
A spokesperson for Mori said “We can confirm Damien has been approached with an offer from representatives of a Canberra A-League bid,
“At this stage Damien is considering his options and giving serious thought to his future and the offer which has been put forward”.
The news has renewed speculation that Canberra’s A-League bid lead by Ivan Slavic is set to be announced as a full A-League licensed franchise for the 2010/11 season at next week’s FFA board meeting.
With many pundits speculating that a Western-Sydney franchise is a certainty for next season, it could well be that the FFA will nominate for a thirteen team competition beyond the current season.
Uncertainty also continues to surround the future of New Zealand club Wellington Phoenix with Asian Confederation President Mohamad bin Hammam on record as saying that beyond the existing five year contract, the club will not be accepted in the A-League. Should they be unable to continue, it is believed Canberra has been flagged as a possible replacement for the competition.

Hmm I was out at the casino on Saturday night and ran into a mate who has been involved with the A-League bid..
He mentioned to me that we were after an "NSL Legend" to coach the side.. I didn't think much of it at the time..
This would be a massive risk and a bit of a let down IMO, especially when you consider that some overseas coaches have expressed interest in us.. The A-League is now on the international spotlight..
Also many A-Leagues club wouldn't be able to afford mid season sackings, so the job security here is very appealing to them..
BTW, a number of Canberra establishments have expressed interest to host post match functions, Woman's side had the tradies club but I understand a number of city venues have expressed interest..

Firstly, Hell yes I like the sound of it as it means that FFA have maybe told us to start preparing for the A-League season in 2010/2011- therefore telling us to firstly look for a coach.
Secondly, I don't like the sound of us looking at Damian Mori. AS you and Social_Loafer have stated, he is too inexperienced and we should be looking for an international, attacking coach who has plenty of experience at the top level.

Agree with you. Why would we look at an NSL coach? A club like Canberra, who we all probably know will not be one of the most experienced teams in the A-League need an experienced coach to lead them.
This kind of reminds me of the Canberra Raiders- David Furner (inexperienced coach) with a very inexperienced team.

Completly agree. Jurgan Klinsman is availible and he did a great job with germany at the last wolrd cup. he played awesome attacking football and rreally halped alot of the younger players to shine.
he lives in america cos he likes the sun so he would love the canberra summers.
its ametuesish that we didnt approach him.

Melbourne’s new A-League team is believed to have reached agreement with an experienced Dutch coach to take charge for its inaugural season. The club, using the working title of Melbourne Heart, will join the competition in 2010, and is determined to hit the ground running in what’s likely to become a titanic rivalry with its Swan Street co-tenants, Melbourne Victory. Contrary to some reports, the inaugural coach won’t be Ruud Gullit but another Dutchman with lengthy experience in the Dutch league.

I think it is immaterial at this stage whether it is Mori or not. The main thing is either that the FFA are ready to give us a licence, or Mr Slavich is gently applying a blowtorch to the FFA's genitals by going public on a coaching offer to Mori, thus showing that we are ready to go.

i don't like the fact that mori might be our caoch, would've much more liked an experienced coach so he can attract players from pervious clubs.
however i love the fact that slavich has gone public with this to show the FFA we're thinking beyond just getting the license already.

OK here's some new and great news! Good to hear that the 13 team solution is being talked about more and more.. a shame it's looking more and more at the expense of Wellington... Ideally it would be nice to have all the clubs around.. Now onto Damien, I believe there exists two fundamental view points concerning coaching in the A-league, on the one hand there are those that argue that the A-league needs foreign coaches who have superior coaching knowledge and on the other hand you have people like Foz who argue that it would be good to see recently retired socceroos given a-league coaching jobs. Both arguements have valid points and besides Vidmar (who has done brilliantly) this second theory hasn't really been tested (we are only starting to see Popa, Muscat as assistant coaches). As far as I also understand it, the Canberra club isn't going to be one of the wealthier or 'title grabbing' clubs as say Melbourne, Gold Coast or Sydney in which cases our resources are going to be more limited.. All things considered we must ask ourselves is it better we dish out cash on a foreigner or getting a local superstar into the coaching gig? I am on the fence about this one however if they do appoint a foreigner I hope someone like Mori will be assistant coach as he has a good idea about the a-league and the standards required.

yeah i like the fact that we're encouraging local talent to enter the coaching pool but i'd much prefer him to be assistant under a foreigner and then take the reign after a couple of years.

I am not sure that he has gone out, I am getting the inkling that the FFA have told us to go in search for a coach as there is not much time to prepare.
Anyway, that is what I am sure all of Canberra are hoping.
BTW, Minster Man, is their a link to that article?

i like the thinhking pittodrie boy, but seeing as western sydney tried to get van egmond as well maybe, just maybe the FFA have sai, go out and get as good a coach you can, and that will help us make a decision.

I'm not sure sure whether the ffa told us to get a coach or whether Mr Slavich is just putting pressure on the ffa.
Both are good but i would hope/prefer if the ffa told us to get a coach because that would mean our bid's ready. I think we should have serious thoughts about players for our team to put even more pressure on the ffa.

Wouldn't be a great move but would love to see him be involved in the A-League. Possibly Canberra A-League Assistant Coach.

Alex, I think the evidence could be swinging towards the FFA telling us to find a coach. With not much time till next season, they would've probably have told us to look for a coach just before they finalise a few things, like Wellington's future etc.

his appointment would be questionable. He is to inexperienced for what will no doubt be an inexperienced side.

from the same guy though.
i don't think that we should be making the decision to take him on so soon, i mean you don't know which coaches may express interest once we get accepted.
