National League triple treat this weekend
Wed Oct 21, 2009 10:49 pm
The three national women’s league teams based in Canberra have joined force ahead of this weekend to offer local supporters a special opportunity to see all three games for the price of one.
Canberra United, Canberra Capitals and ACT Meteors will all be contesting home fixtures this weekend, the only occasion this summer that will see all three sides host visitors on the same weekend.
The ACT Meteors will kick off the action with a Twenty20 match on Friday afternoon against Tasmania in their inaugural season of the Women’s National Cricket League followed by Canberra United versus Melbourne Victory on Saturday and the Capitals taking on Adelaide on Sunday.
This one-off opportunity allows Canberra United supporters free entry into the Canberra Capitals versus Adelaide Lightning fixture on Sunday upon showing a ticket from Saturday’s Melbourne Victory match at the gate.
Capitals supporters who pre-purchase their ticket for Sunday’s fixture will be granted free entry into the Canberra United game on Saturday when they show their ticket at the gate.
Canberra United’s custodian Lydia Williams is encouraging not only our supporters but the broader community to join the teams and cheer on all three local sides this weekend.
“We’re all going to go to each other’s games and supporting each other and I encourage everyone else to get along to as many of the games as possible this weekend,” Williams said.
Hopefully the added support on game day will provide a big boost to the home teams as they all chase very important victories this weekend.
“The crowd is our twelfth player on the field so the more support we get the better.”

For anyone who does watch the Canberra Capitals play, what kind of crowds do they stack up to in comparision to United's crowds?

Well the Caps got a sell out to their final last year, about 5K.
The difference is that cos it's indoors and a really small stadium, if they only get 500 it seems like 5000 :)

On that note - it's great that the seasons overlap like this, really helps with the cross-pollination in promotion.
Also, my girl goes home from uni in November, so I can watch all the games in peace lol :)
