Canberra United or Brisbane Roar
2010/11 Round 2 vs Brisbane Roar: Teams, Previews and Match day thread
Sun Nov 07, 2010 8:41 pm
So after what seemed to be a convincing 4-1 victory over the Perth Glory, Canberra United return home to face arguably one of the better teams in the W-League, in the Brisbane Roar, who will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing 4-2 loss to Sydney FC over the weekend. Here is the place to discuss your starting team, previews and anything else concerned about the Round 2 fixture vs the Roar.

Canberra 2-1 Brisbane
it'll be a close game though
should we include a crowd prediction as well?
if so...
i'd say about 970

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the win over Perth wasn't that convincing. From the footage I've seen, Heyman scored two lucky goals and Perth could've had two more. We didn't really kick into gear until Cian scored that BRILLIANT header of Eggy's cross.
If we don't start well, Brisbane will take us out to dinner and leave us the cheque. Butt and Harch's goals were freaking awesome, and their midfield looked good, only for their defence to frig it all up for them.
Ray to play 4-3-1-2 this week.

1-1
Butt scored on the stroke of half time, while Ellyse Perry equalised around the 75 minute mark.
1st half was rather dull, but the game definitely came alight in the 2nd.

I thought the girls did quite well. Did much better in the second half. Sally and Caitlin Munoz were great as usual. Ellie did well at the back. Didn't think much of Glohe. Wasted a lot of balls with bad passes. Perry was the same on the other side. Passing was atrocious and got outrun every time in the chase with the bris girls. Good goal from her, but it didn't make up for the awful play the other 89 minutes.

Yeah, Glohe played terribly. However, I do think the assessment of Perry is a little harsh.

We all have our own opinions, but no way could you say Perry was best on park. She let her team down badly.

I was at the game and agree with Cunitfan. No way Perry BOP. That honour would go to Butt.
Perry made 2 effective runs.
Both Perry and Glohe were found out for speed and only managed to escape when their opponents had moved forward. Both of them did not provide well to their forwards who were working extremely hard to make position only for them to spray something over their head or over the line.
Cailtin needs to defend more although forward work was good.
Not sure Heyman does enough, especially given the surrounding hype! I think she may excel against a weak defence.
Hogg did well when she came on. I rate her.
Canberra got on top when Brisbane ran out of puff.

The advantage of picking local players from a tough comp...southside wrote:Canberra got on top when Brisbane ran out of puff.
CU have been pre-seasoning for months, no surprise to see their fitness come to the fore.
I think you're right there, but we've more options up front now. Using Ship or Munoz up front with Tseng could work, even putting Cian up there is an option. Ray needs to know that just because what we used up top worked against PG, doesn't mean it'll work against Bris or Sydney.southside wrote:I think she may excel against a weak defence.

It seemed as though Shipard was playing as a defensive midfielder. Don't think her game is suited best there.
Anyway, some may be wondering where the army was for this game. We admit we are very small, and various members had exams, or work. A few others had other sporting commitments and some were sick.
We'll be back next week against Melbourne.

Shipard plays everywhere, may look great but I reckon it is disruptive and confusing to the other players who have to play around her.
Not good for team strucutre.

Should be Munoz and Heyman up front with Ship behind and Gill in at CDM. Cian and the Eg on the wings.

we deserved a win, but a draw was fair, the ref was really bad and we shouldve got at least two penalties in the last 2 minutes
