United promotion
Thu Jun 25, 2009 6:09 pm
Would be good to see United build on last years success and great coverage from the Canberra Times. You'd expect to get similar coverage this year. What about aiming for a bumper crowd in round 1. A sell-out at Belconnen why not?
People talk about our junior base but where has been the promotion of our team this year.
Okay we'll probably see a few players out in August doing some promotion which would be great.
But what about giving all the kids under 12, boys and girls a hat, a bandana or something to wear and promote the game/the team all season/all year. Maybe a poster and in time a card with all the fixtures on it. Can't be hard to get a sponsor for all the kids can it!
No point having a supporter base if you don't use it. Do these kids even know about Canberra United. Pretty basic stuff really and something Canberra has never done well.
Promotion of national teams and connecting them to our juniors is something we can easily do but we need to do it before the junior seasons end.
Can the kids sign-up for a kid newsletter and get stuff that way.
Have we got a network of emails/txt of the 1,000 people who regular go...urge them to bring 3 more for the first game and really promote it.
Our fans are our obvious sales people
Any better ideas?

agree completely in that regard, i think that with the right promotion and connections with the juniors we could get a crowd of 2K+ to the fist game, it'd be awesome.

The problem with handing out all the hats etc is the costs.. It must be said promotion of the W-league is still well of its mark.. I think Westfields should have signs up which would grab the attention of nearly the entire Canberra community. As official sponsors of the W-league I would recommend the Canberra United promotion group go and ask for signs of the girls to be placed up in every Westfields.. Now then we would rake in a crowd...

that'd be decent for drawing a crowd but realistically capital football should be handing out free passes to all people who play football in the capital, would rake in a great crowd

No cost if you get a sponsor. Limited the amount of hats to the sponsor you get.
What targeted sponsor wouldn't want our biggest spenders and influencers of spenders than our juniors and their mums.
Time to push the envelope

this would've been really good before the junior season started ie hand out canberra united caps with the sponsors name on it at rego days around canberra.

Not sure because people would have forgotten or lost the hats by the time the W-league started.. May I ask when it actually starts? If I recall is it in October? If so then now would be the best time to start promoting the girls as we are only 2 months out and people will remember..

TV ads can go a long way, even flyer's at the Canberra Centre could rake in a descent crowd.

Very disappointing that the girls game on 31 October before the A league game hasn't been advertised at all when advertising the mens game. NOT FAIR!!

Yeah nothing has been advertised that's why we should do it ourselves or at least tell someone that can make a tv ad.

I have seen ads on tv for the two a league games and not one mention of the girls games. Also the board on Haydon Drive and Ginnin Drive which advertise the upcoming events lists the a league game and not the girls game. Also it has been in the paper again with no mention of the girls game.
