Melbourne Heart: Was it ideal?
Mon Aug 24, 2009 4:02 pm
BY all reports, it seems that Melbourne are struggling to put together to form a strong club: support wise and financially wise. And considering that Canberra have put together "the best ever bid" and western Sydney seems a favoured destination to the FFA and they also have a strong bid, was it ideal to place a team in Melbourne.
Do you also reckon that the FFA could be regretting this, and be surprised with Canberra's bid, just expecting a walkover from Western Sydney?

No way I think the new club should have enough support and the finances for a second team there to be sustainable plus the Melbourne derby will be great to watch

i agree with mikey porto, i can just see how this one will turn out, 5K victory supporters making up the entire crowd.
why would the FFA do this?
unless they've done some sort of survey of people that follow football in melbourne but not victory then i'm 100% against this.

...Like I reckon down the track, OF COURSE, a second melbourne team but at least with Western Sydney, there is a long way between the West and where FC are based.

They have done surveys to see if a second team was viable and their results were that it was viable.

Agree with you here mikey. With what else is on offer, it just seems that melbourne Heart isn't the vest option.

Yeah we'll see... I heard the Melbourne Heart bid name will change to Melbourne City FC in the coming months.
FFA apparently want an A-League match every week in Melbourne.

They want a game in Sydney and Melbourne every week. They do.
Melbourne City FC? I like that.

now that their first season is starting... im a bit worried... victory have 16,000 members while the heart have 4,000... theyve got a great team but im not too sure about support... and if heart are going to get bad crowds (i hope not) then the sydney rovers will get even worse

Looked like a great crowd but was only 11,050 which is a good start for the season.

it looked great because its a small stadium, still good crowd and if they can keep it up all year that'll be great
