Get a crowd to the Socceroos (third string side) and your in remember that?

We got 20,000 the same as the Wallabies against Italy in Canberra and Melbourne.
and that wasn't enough..so now another test. I don't think so.

How many people would turn out for Perth v Adelaide in Gosford or Sydney
or Storm v Cowboys in Canberra let's get real here.

Let's hope we get a decent crowd but come on we could get 20,000 and the FFA would still mess us around..oh we did that already.

And funny how they are very interested in our crowd, once more, since the West Sydney bid went pear shape.

just quietly how many FFA A-League games have over 10,000 this year and that's with
a home crowd team.

the FFA are for some reason more hesitant with Canberra then any other a-league side including townsville and Wellington.. I am not entirely sure why, bad past record, lack of funds, but I think it's legitimate that the FFA play this game to see how many people would come watch the a-league.. the 20 000 mark was a socceroos game and a one off in Canberra.. an a-league team needs constant support but I am sure we have enough supporters. In all honesty if we don't get at least 5000 people tonight then I would understand if the FFA decided to play only 11 teams next season. Canberra may be the biggest gamble for the FFA since the A-league's inception, we just have to ensure there is enough support out there otherwise our club may be undone just as quickly as it will be created.

It would be terrible to get a club then watch it fall Please No .

Look, football is all about tribalism and supporting a team you actually care about and yes I still support Aberdeen - once a sheep-shagger, always a sheep-shagger ;-) When they fed us a second string Socceroos match, we turned up in droves to support the green and gold. Give us two out-of-town teams which, lets face it, none of us gives a rat's ass about, and still top the 5,000 mark, is a great achievment for a city of Canberra's size.
Let's hope the FFA recognise this!

Pittodrie Boy, you have all summed it up perfectly. What would've the FFA expected. I know they said 5000 would be disappointing but considering all circumstances, only the die-hard Canberra supporters would make their way out.

5000 paying to watch someone elses teams go round is a pretty a good turnout. Do the supporters of the Western Sydney bids get judged on whether they go to watch Sydney FC play? I would assume not as only 11,000 watched Sydney play Wellington last week and no one is bagging their bids. BTW did all the gate takings go back to Gosford?

Good post "TheBid". IMO, throughout the whole year and late last year, the Canberra public have really turned out in force for numerous events:

Brumbies pulling 20K on numerous occasions
Raiders pulling 19k, and 17K this year and late last year
Wallabies pulling 22K against Italy
Socceroos pulling 20K
W-League pulling 1K-1.6K consistently
Pre-season A-League matches getting 7K on a Sunday arvo.

WE have proved ourselves and deserve that spot.

This is a good topic and everyone is bringing up great comments!

It definately won't be an 11 team competition, Canberra has allready proved itself!

Wow, 6800 people turned up to watch the top of the table clash between their own Gold Coast v Sydney today and only 5193 turned up to watch Plonker A v Plonker B at our place...now I get it.....This is not about support, rather about stumping up with the required $6M....we have shown our support already.

not too mention the UCI Mountain bike champs in Canberra, the AFL finals and the last round of the NRL on TV... Canberra has a wide sporting communtiy and just because the FFA think that 10,000+ people will turn up on a cold Friday night, doesn't mean it will happen. the FFA are just naive.

I agree. If they use the crowd for the CCM-Perth game as an excuse then I will not be a happy camper.
