This is the one area of the bid that I'm worried about.

Canberran's are known to be quite fickle supporters of their sporting teams.

i reckon 12-13K first season then depending on how we do the figure will change.

if we do crap first season: 8K
If we do well: 12-13K

It'll be tough to sustain good crowds but I believe it really depends on the form of the team.

I think if we do well we can get 14k crowds.

look at the brumbies, there crowd averages have been around 16K this season and the raiders average is 12.5K. A canberra a-league team would definately get as many as the raiders. which would be great in a-league terms.

Have to consider that the season starts in August and finishes in February so this may improve the crowd figures, however then again around Xmas time people tend to leave Canberra. :afro:

Really, if the team is successful, they can fill Canberra staduim just as the jets have done on several occasions. Anyway 12 or 13 thousand a game is a good crowd for an average game in a small city.

yea but dear God... have the Jets crowds been pathetic lately. Even in these ACl matches, they haven't done terribly, yet they are only getting 7,500-8,000 crowds. Even CCM's crowds have been poor.

I'm not sure the Australia vs Kuwait match figure of 20,032 is an accurate figure for a few reasons.

1 it was the socceroos, not a canberra a-league team. A downside.
2 It was the socceroos, not a canberra a-league team. Also an upside.
3 it was a one off event
4 it was a weeknight
5 ticket prices were pretty expensive, something i really believe that a canberra a-league team needs to get right.

make of this what you will.

10k average in first season would be great to see. That should be the aim, though I'm with most people that 12k for a good season and 8k for a bad.

I read it as a positive, however I may have my blinkers on?

I've only lived in Canberra 4 years, however it didn't take long to realise that there is a big football community here and given a good quality side and marketed the right way then Canberra can be successful.

by the way the socceroos were and A-League team.

Yeah i agree with this. I really hate it when people try to predict what a canberra a-league team's support will look like based on the successes or failures of teams either from another sport or from another time.

I think most likely a 10 to 11 thousand average for the first season, which will increase or decrease the following season pending form.

well judging by history it will all depend on how well the team performs.
that's the worst thing about canberra crowds. of course there are the loyal group that support the team whether they win or lose. but in canberra you have to play well to keep the crowd. unfortunately there are a lot of fussy people in this city.
when teams are winning you have more numbers...just look at the capitals basketball team for instance. they are getting large crowds for female basketball as they keep winning the competition yet we completely lose the mens team as the low crowd numbers couldn't support a team while they were down.

I actually believe we will be able to get decent crowds. Enough to say the the FFA: "yea, pretty good".

Raiders get good 14k crowds, when we aren't even doing the best. And then we see the Brumbies sometimes getting 20,000 crowds. But on top of that they are competing at the same times of the year against eachother.

We play in Summer months, and in the summer, at night, Canberra is a very nice place to be. On top of that 2 months of the season is school holidays. And last but not least we aren't competing against anyone. Bar the crappy Canberra Ice Hockey team: Stiff competition there.

One thing that will REALLY boost our crowds is if they give out free passes to the Junior footballers. This action is done with the Raiders and the Brumbies.

there are so many positives that would place canberra a-league teams crowds higher than those of the brumbies and raiders (as stated above), and i believe that canberra has more support for football than the rugby codes so 15K first season average.

With a good amount of advertising we could pull off 13,000-15,000 regularly

The ticket prices should be realistic and if they can get that right along with lots of advertising we will get crowds from 14,000 to 18,000.
They need to get ticket prices right.

negatives of the past which affected the game here:
shyte team.
Winter competition.
Yugoslavian conflict and Serb - Cro tensions at the time.

positives for the future:
management will pick a better quality side this time around.
summer comp. beautifull evenings in the territory.
canberra is not as segregated now as it was when I was growing up.
