Marquee player for first season

any thoughts?

first ones that come to mind are:

Josip Simunic (although he'd take up a foreigners spot) :roll:
Vince Grella
Carl Valeri

anyone else?

Because he has Australian nationality and he was born here he wouldn't.

Carl Valeri should stay in Europe, as should Grella, at least until after the Asian Cup.

yup agree. He won't come back to Australia for a while. He will be at 2014 World Cup.

No it actually wouldn't. He has Aussie background. So that makes him Australian. Just because he has played for Croatia doesn't mean he would take up a foreign spot. You can be 1/10 Aussie but you still won't count as a froeigner.

If this is the case then it is a major shame! I still have hope for the guy!

Na I reckon he can still go a long way. At Melbourne when he was playing regulary at the end of his stint he looked like a veteran.

At the Jets:

he has been wasted in stupid positions, been told by an idiot coach he is a major disppointment, and he surely now is lacking with confidnce with all this chopping and changing of the first XI. (sorry Mitch_Jets)

Well lets face it, anyone who is in even the reserve team at benfica is a very decent player.

I'd be all for him playing for canberra but not as our marquee.

Just had luch at the "Vieri" restairant in Syndey which reminds me he has an Aussie brother Max who probably has scored more goals for the Socceroos than Scotty McDonald (harsh but i like scotty). possible marquee???

Whoever the marquee player is i think we should get someone in their prime and in form. Getting a semi-retired player is useless

garcia would be good, adelaide were negotiating with him a while back and he wanted 1 mil a year which would be affordable for us.

I'm not too sure that Canberra would have the one million mark, Perth doesn't, the jets sometimes don't and the central coast don't really either. The one million mark is for the big clubs like sydney, GCU and melbourne however it would be a coup to pull off his signature.

I don't think we would be able to afford this. No way. Yes it is under the salary cap but if we want Simunic as well then there is no way in the world we can get him.

no we would get simunic or garcia not both.

I think this is a very hard thing to just pick straight up and this can be a make or brake decision so we dont want to stuff it up with somthing like little thought.
