i think that we all agreee about simunic, he's exactly the sort of player we want,
a) he's a big name
b) he's a really good player
c) he's canberran

HARRY KEWELL!!!!!!!!
this no joke though
he signalled his intentions to either pplay in usa or back home here after his contract has expired in turkey. its a fat chance but as long as we can get enough third-party sponserships he should be on the plane here the moment we get that liscence!!!

now if we got kewell you would pull all of canberra in... he is still young though so I would prefer to see him in europe still.

I like the idea of having a player 'still in his prime', i.e. a richie garcia or carl valeri, but on the other hand pulling off a big name signing like a dwight yorke or robbie fowler would get a lot of of the 50/50 fans through the gates. personally i would like to see a big name player coming toward the end of his career play - imagine being in Townsville and being able to watch Robbie Fowler play week in week out.

Kanu is a possibility or Dwight York for that matter though they are both getting on and might not last more then a season.

He'll be 72 on Sunday. Happy birthday Kanu.
Dwight lives by the motto: you're only as old as the women you feel. Unfortunately they're getting a bit long in the tooth now too.

I cant think of a big enough name in asia, though Denilson signed for a V league team but he prolly doesnt make the scratch any more.. A current Japanese international would be a good choice though they are most likely out of the budget.. Not considering marquee status but some real good players to entice could be Ognenovski, Adrian Madaschi, Shane Stefanuto, Chris Coyne and my proposed marquees would be Garcia, Valeri (though he is only 25) or Emerton and of course Simunic.

madaschi wouldn't come, he's too young.
stefanutto maybe but he'd be too expensive and not a big enough name for marquee.
any players playing in the j-league or the k-league are out of budget.

Wouldn't be marquee, but how bout we give Bosnich a chance in goals?
Sure he'd just love to play as #1 keeper in a national side, and we know he's still got it!

True, but even if we had him for only the first year he could be a good mentor to our number keeper at the time and perhaps even stay on as an assistant coach or something?RaidersCampese6 wrote:^^^^

Reckon he'd bring attention to the team at the very least...he did get a fair bit of media attention when he had his small stint in the a-league.

yeah I would be keen for Bosnich... a 2 year playing contract with possiblity of assistant coach (like popa at Sydney and Kevin Muscat at Melbourne). I think him and possibly one of the brightest youngesters in goal who can learn from him (ie Birighitti)

How about Matthew Booth as a player from South Africa.. he has excelled for S.Africa in defense for the Confederations Cup. He has wanted to head towards Europe but maybe Australia might tickle his fancy!

Agree Tobster. not so much about Booth because I don't know much about him but because I think we should look to getting some African talent over.

Well booth looks like he is over 2 meters easily which is perfect for a center back.
