Isn't he still contracted to a Turkish club?

yes but only for about 2 more years.... we would have plenty of time to get him here.

it would take a lot to bring Roberto Carlos here. I dont know whether he would be bothered. But Jason CUlina is making 3.6 million over 3 years so it would cost around 5 mill for 3 years.

he would be 35 by that time... too old.. we shouldn't be looking for players (especially marquees) for just one season... I seriously think Alexander Frei would be worth looking at. He is a current Swiss international, scores almost a goal in every second game (wikipedia), is only 30 and he could have a chat with Sydney FC's Stephan Keller about the game here... Know I dont know if he is a big enough name but he's a proven striker and known to be one of Switzerland's best...

From memory, I believe Roberto Carlos was interested in coming back to the A-League.
BUt IMO, he would be too old. IMO, we need our marquee player to be a striker or AM. Because these flair players are what bring crowds. If they are on fire then so will the crowds.

no way he would be hoping for a move to the premier league if he is that good, he would be looking to follow Arshavin's example like I said I would like to put Alexander Frei as a possibility (please check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Frei and give me some feedback)
He is a current and Switzerland's all time leading goal-scorer. This year he has just returned to Basel in Switzerland after three years at Borussia Dortmund and before that at Rennes FC in Ligue 1. He is a proven goal scorer as his stats say and he is only 30 years old. He was injured in Switzerland's first Euro 2008 match but played for them in 2006 and has world cup experience in Germany.. If we wanted a good quality marquee with a realistic chance of possibly getting then I think he may fit the role..

Well he is known through out Europe maybe not as much to Australian audiences though but I think it's important we get a proven goal scorer.
