FFA Defers 12th Club Decision

EXCLUSIVE: Football Federation Australia has delayed making a final decision about a potential 12th A-League club following the national governing body’s board meeting last night.

FFA's board met to decide on the fate of a 12th potential A-League team. However, the decision to defer was taken to allow bidders more time to work on "...matters relevant to their individual applications".

The next board meeting will be in October but that does not preclude an earlier decision if possible, we understand.

It's understood there was a range of issues which varied from bid to bid that the FFA wanted more detail and clarification on before making any decisions.

Bids from western Sydney, Canberra and Wollongong were all considered, though it's been reported that a second Sydney team remains highest on the league's agenda.

Meanwhile A-League expansion franchise Melbourne Heart, the 11th A-League club set to kick off next season, has begun advertising for key roles within their organisation.

These positions include football operations manager and two roles in their commercial and financial departments.

Heart can begin signing up players currently with rival A-League clubs from October if the player's contract runs out at the end of this season.

The longer a decision on their fellow newcomers is delayed, the more advantage it will hand Melbourne Heart.

The new club will be able to recruit the best of available players without any competition from the as yet undecided 12th franchise - which will still only be in the early stages of its basic setting up and backroom staffing.

Absolutely PATHETIC from the FFA, it is now giving me the inkling, that despite me saying WS' bid was all good to go, isn't.

Sounds like bids like Canberra are good enough but they want a 2nd Sydney team so they are giving them more time. And if thats the case it really sucks. I'd be disappointed if the FFA are running this thing based on agenda rather then the winning bid.

How are we meant to form backroom staff, a playing roster, promotional offers etc, with this short amount of time.

Just add on to that, it is obvious that delaying of the decision is because of the Wellington situation. They are most probably in discussion with them and the AFC about their future.

i have lost all my respect for ffa, this is a joke. If WS do end up getting a team, how can they expect to get anyone to the canberra a league games after we've been stuffed around, i know i wont be going

Damn well I think our club will have to move very fast if we get in... I think we should propose to help them with promotions and things like this to give them extra hands cause they will need it..

That's just the working name, the name will be given to fans for them to come up with a club name so it won't be called this by the time a football is kicked.

As we are all (or should be) investors in this bid, surely it is not unreasonable to ask Mr. Slavic to give us an update on where our bid stands and what needs to be done to get us over the line?

TBH, i can see merit in us missing out this time.

hypothetically if we do get in we will be obvious wooden spoon candidates because of the lack of time to prepare a squad, and the canberra public might just fall offside like they do with the raiders and just say that canberra united are crap.

Really am getting sick and tired of the FFA. It is clear that all they are doing is waitng for the Western Sydney bids to come around.

Bloody ridiculous from the FFA. It is obvious that they are just delaying it so WS can come around.

What is with the hold up? Is it that the bids are all not up to scratch or is it that the FFA are waiting for Western Sydney to put theirs together?
